Hobbit Houses of the Real World

The house is nestled into a hillside. Stone and mud (and magic) were the basic construction materials. Water pipes in by gravity feed from a nearby spring. They use a compost toilet--so that's how hobbits do their business. Their refrigerator is cooled by air coming in from the underground foundations.

The Most Famous Unkindness

Ainsley Drew, writing for kottke.org, dishes some dirt about an unkindness of ravens that the Tower of London keeps in residence. Love their names.

Dopplr

Dopplr has launched. It’s a neat site that lets you document trips you take, and does stuff like hook up to your Flickr feed and tell you when your friends are going to be in the same city. Rush-Hour Metro Fares May Rise as Much as $2.10

Rush-Hour Metro Fares May Rise as Much as $2.10

Yikes. The idea here that charging more for crowded stations will get people to move to other stations is absurd. I don’t really have the option of moving my office building to a less crowded area.
